All Purpose Card

This card has two firsts for me. My first Copic use and first inking of Cuttlebug folders. I ended up using this card as well as "Celebrate Spring" and "Bunny" for a class I taught last night.

I think I will try inking folders again. I love the effect. The Cuttlebug folders I used where Textile, Birds & Swirl, D'vine Swirl, Floral Screen, and Leafy Branch with Brilliance Moonlight White ink.

These are the cards we created in class last night. I'll have to take a picture of the "Bunny" card and post it so that you can see it close up.

Easel Card and Twist-top Easter Box

This is the Easter Gift Set that I came up with for one of my classes at Scrapbookers Paradise.

In the past few months I have come to really love the Cuttlebug and all the possibilities using folders, dies and of course Spellbinders. So for this project I of course just had to focus on the things we can do using the Cuttlebug. I used the Cuttlebug Swiss Dots folder for the easel card as well as the Spellbinders Labels Four and Oval dies, which are also used for the Twist Top Box.
I did not have an Easter stamp for the card, hence the "Happy Day" stamp I used and heat embossed.

Next is the close up of the Twist Top Box. The inspiration for this box is a simplified version of Becca Feeken's beautiful and elaborate design
In the creation of this box, I had to keep in mind that the class would include all levels of experience, hence the simplified version of Becca's creation. These boxes are great fun to make. Thank you Becca for sharing. The students in my class loved your Twist Top Box idea.

Thank You

This card was created using scraps and using the card created by Becca Feeken for the CPS 157 challenge. I wanted to figure out how she created her card and I was impressed with the design. Sorry for the blurry images. I'm not used to using this camera.

I liked the papers I chose from my scraps, but somehow when the card was completed I did not care for it as much as Becca's. I think I will try it again at a later date and see if I can improve on it.

Service Auction Card Pack

This set of 6 cards with a gift box (modified) was created for our Relief Society's Birthday Celebration Service Auction. I will mention here that all these cards were made using paper scraps. Just A Note to Say HELLO

A very simple card to make, but still has an eye catching quality to it.

I used a white base card and with the exception of this and the white centred oval, all edges are ink distressed using Dew Drop Vera Magic Night Sky. The MSE large swirl flourish was stamped witht he same ink, but stamped twice on scrap paper to lighten the ink, and then the American Crafts Stamp Collection "Enjoy" sentiment was stamped with the same ink at full intensity. This centre Oval is raised with pop-dots and using the dotted line, extended it onto the outer ovals using small pearls.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY- Have a Wonderful Day

This card was inspired by the CPS Sketch 158. I have posted this card seperately in a prevoius post, and you can read the details about it there.

ALL WHITE WEDDING CARD - Always and Forever

I have always wanted to create an all white wedding card, and this was the perfect opportunity. I used the Scor Pal to create a double line embossed border. Within this area I adhered a piece of velum, heat embossed with a clear flourish (more easily seen in actuality) in the upper left and lower right quadrents. Next came the "Always and Forever" sentiment stamped in the lower left corner on the velum. I then punched ribbon slots, centered, in between the two embossed border lines on each side and fed the ribbon through tying a bow in the centre front. I then attached the Mr. & Mrs. Spellbinders tags, one on either side of the bow and adhered them in place. the glittery heart was cut on the Cricut using the "Love Struck" cartridge at 4 1/4". This was not a simple task as some of the areas were quite fine and I had to be very careful to not break them as I took it off the Cricut mat and applied Cool Highlight Glitter Ritz. I then glued the heart in the upper right quadrent at an angle so that the clear flourish would still be visable and look like it was coming from the glitter heart.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

The bottom green section is topped with Fiskars Apron Lace border punch while the Happy Birthday sentiment from Hero Arts Birthday Say is stamped with Dew Drop Memento Bamboo Leaves and heat embossed with clear. The Crop-A-Dile Corner Chomper was used to round the upper left and bottom right corners. The darker olive green pape strips are embossed on the Cuttlebug using the Swiss Dots folder. The Scalloped Square was cut and embossed with Spellbinders and attched using Pop-Dots. The inner square was stamped with a leafe stamp from MSE True Friends set with Versa Mark and heat embossed with clear, then edged with the same Memento Bamboo Leaves ink using and ink distress foam sponge. It, too, is then adhered in place with Pop-Dots.

GET WELL SOON

In going through my paper scraps I came across this piece with birds on it and thought, that generally speaking, birds make a cheerful happy sound and would make a good Get Well card. Besides, the colours are restful and cheery at the same time. The lighter aqua blue paper was edged using a Mara Stewart border punch with light aqua blue jewels adhered in the tiny holes between the punched flowers and then adhered to the card with Pop-Dots.

Next came the bird paper. I happened to have a matching dark salmon colour in scraps and used it as a border base behind the birds. I found some matching ribbon and tied it at the top and then attached this piece to the card; again using Pop-Dots.

The light aqua coloured scrap I then stamped the little bird in the centre using Versa Mark, while stamping the Get Well Soon sentiment from Flourishes Sweet Violets set in Dew Drop Versa Magic Ocean Depth, and heat embossed both with clear. I then used Versa Mark on some of the background birds as well as second stamping birds in the Ocean Depth, and the two strongest coloured birds in the inital stamping with the same colour. This is backed with the darker Acqua and dark salmon coloured papers and again mounted onto the card with Pop-Dots.

THANK YOU - seen at the top left of the set of cards

This red/green/blue/beige card had already been made just before I made this set and is detailed in an earlier posting.

So this is the set. I was greatly surprise last night when this card sold at the service auction for $710! We did not use real money at this Relief Society Birthday Celebration Service Auction, but had to fill out a questionare at the beginning that awarded Monopoly money for the questions answered. That was the money used to purchase items made by the ladies for the silent part of the auction or to bid for services donated at the live part of the auction. It was great fun. And the refreshments that were prepared were fantastic! It was a great night out with the ladies of the Relief Society.

CPS Sketch 158

I'm so excited! After checking the CPS blog nearly everyday for several months, I decided it would be fun to actually participate by submitting a card inspired by the challenge. I was making a set of six cards in a card box for our Relief Society service auction and this card is one of them. (The card set sold for $710 in Monopoly money--everyone received different amounts determined by a questionnaire!)

Here is the result of the CPS 158 inspiration:

The white base card was ink distressed with Dew Drop Versa Magice Red Brick. I then embossed the yellow/gold Bazzill paper on the Cuttlebug using the Friends Forever folder and gently applied Dew Drop Versa Magic Red Brick ink on the raised surface. Then I used the Versa Mark pen over the embossed surface, once the ink was dry, and heat embossed with clear powder. I then stamped Happy Birthday, from the Hero Arts Birthday Say set, down the left side of the card. I decided to ink the paper edges with the Red Brick as well.

The corners were rounded on the red/orange and yellow/gold papers using the Corner Chomper. The sentiment was stamped using the Hero Arts March set, and a tag was made from it with Spellbinders tags. The ribbon was fed through on each side, and the right side of the tag partially folder under on the right side with the ribbon ends to meet on the left side of the card. Then I used a Bo Bunny button with a red/orange floss to tie the button to the ribbon keeping the ribbon in place, and trimmed the ribbon.

One thing I must say, however, is that the colors in the photo are not true. They are a slightly darker and brighter than what they turned out to be in the photo.

It was so fun making the card with the CPS inspired sketch that I feel I can, and will, enter more challenges in the future.

Happy Anniversary

Even though this card isn't my sister's style, I couldn't resist making a vintage card with my scraps for her anniversary. The one thing I kept in mind was weight and bulk considerations for mailing.

After cutting a square card out of kraft cardstock, I inked the edges of the green crackle patterned paper background and then inked around a Tim Holtz mask. I should have used the same color ink for both jobs and should probably have done the mask before the outer edges but because that ink was too light, you can't tell. I adhered the back strip and then created the embellishments by a sort of trial and error process. I used a Spellbinders Circle Nestabilities to cut out and emboss that funky pattern from scrap paper. I then pierced two holes in it so that it resembled a button in the center. I then placed an epoxy sticker over the center and pierced it over the paper holes. (Don't try and do both in one step... It rips the paper in the back and looks messy!) I then threaded rustic jute button twine through the holes and attached it to my card. I tried to get it sort of frayed in the center of the embellishments for effect. I was quite pleased with the results!

I then stamped the sentiment (Mega Mixed Messages) using Versamagic Dewdrop in Gingerbread and embossed with clear powder. The flourish (as well as the stamps on the interior of the card) is from a new company called WPlus9 and was added at the end in the same ink but I was unable to emboss it. I'm fine with this as the sentiment is what counts! I roughened the edges of the paper strip with my Tim Holtz paper distresser tool.

As I mentioned before, the interior of the card was stamped with one of my new stamp sets from WPlus9 called Just a Note. My sister and I are both musical and so this set was just too perfect to resist! I stamped the sentiment and main image in Brilliance Dewdrop Pearlescent Chocolate and then used my watermark pad (Versamark) to stamp some random musical notes. I love it!

And, of course, I made my own envelope using the Scor-Pal.

Birthday Wishes

My son-in-law's birthday isn't until May, but I never know how busy I will be and decided to make it now that I had a little time, just in case. I used the Perfectly Paisley folder in the Cuttlebug to emboss the green/blue paper, and created a pocket on the front of the card to hold a tag/coupon. He like Black Forest cake, Apple and Strawbery-Rhubarb pies. So I thought that I would make a coupon for him to redeem when he wanted a special treat.

I think it is a good masculine birthday card.

Thank You

A little too much glare form the flash to see the true colours. My daughter tells me that I'm obsessed with colours. I can't help it, It must be the artist and graphic designer in me that makes acuracy of colours important to me.

This is a little out of my sphere of colour coordination, but I took the lead from the floral flourish paper with the colours of biege, green, blue, red, and bits of brown. So I have here, a Red based card, where the main patterned papers used are backed with a light powder blue boarder base.

The 2 patterned papers I cut a rectangle, to the measurementrequired, and then cut diagonally creating the triangles to butt together. These triangles I pierced every 1/8" around the edges and connected the holes with a white gel pen to create the stitched look. Next, the ribbons, red and light green with white polka-dots, was adhered. Then the flower flourish I had cut form the paper earlier was adhered - parts directly onto the layer, but hte main flower flourish with Pop-Dots.

The "Thank You" sentiment was stamped on the red paper using Dew Drop Versa Magic Wheat, cut out, and then backed with a biege cardstock creating a thin border. The same was done for the snipped ends seperately. These where adhered right onto the card surface while the "Thank You" sentiment was adhered over this with Pop-Dots raising it from the sruface creating a banner-like look.

Strengthen Faith

It was a great feeling to make something that I wanted to make for myself. I've been so busy creating and preparing project samples for classes that I teach at Scrapbookers Paradise here in Calgary, that I haven't really had a chance to make something I wanted to make. Since it is the beginning of March, I wanted to be prepared for my Visiting Teaching lesson which is about strengthening our faith through scripture study. So here it is.

Front

Back

Box to keep it in and put away when not using.
One of the three quotes.

Place to write ideas qnd/or goals to help your family strengthen their faith.

And of course a spot to write about the results of our own personal experience in strengthening faith through scripture study.

It's always great to come up with ideas like this.

To Make this project yourself:

Cut 5 pieces of coordinating double sided paper to 10 1/4" H x 5"W and score at 6 3/4"H. DO NOT FOLD YET.

Cut 5 tag cards from these same papers, or other double sided paper that matches, to 6 1/2" H x 4"W. Round corners. Adhere the typed messages (next step) leaving equal border on both sides and bottom. The top will have a larger border to accommodate the ribbon and button. Punch a ribbon slot in the center of this space.

When creating your typed messages on the computer, create them to fit into the cut size of 5 1/2" H x 3 3/4" W. Round corners after cutting them to size.

The letters cut on the Cricut - 'FAITH" at 3 3/4" and 'strengthen' at 1 3/4" or 1 1/2" if you prefer.

Adhere the 'FAITH' letters 3/4" from the score line, and 'strengthen' letters, 2 on each piece, (the bottom of these letters) 2" from the top. I used removable painter's tape to mark these measurements for easier placement of the letters. I took a gold gel pen and edged around the letters with it. Choose whatever colour of gel pen you wish. Once this done, turn the pieces of paper over with the 'H' on the left and the 'F' on the right. (If you don't do this you will have the word FAITH backwards when completed)

Cut two lengths of ribbon no less than 27". I used 1" removable painter's tape to mark where I need to place the doublesided tape for the edge of the ribbon. One strip at the score line and one at the top of the piece of paper. This way you don't have to measure for your placement. Then I placed the double sided tape just where the center of the ribbon would be when the ribbon is edged next to the painter's tape. Don't have the tape go right to the very edge of the paper, maybe 1/16 of an inch from the edge.

Now place a piece of double sided tape at the left end of the underside of both the ribbons (no more that 1/2") and remove backing and fold edge under. Now be sure to place the pieces of paper no more than 1/8" apart and remove backing of double sided tape one paper at a time adhereing ribbon and making sure that they stay 1/8" apart. When you get to the last one, before removing the backing of the tape, trim ribbon and fold under as you did on the left end of the ribbons. Then complete ribbon placement.

On the bottom, below the score line, place no more than 1/4" doublesided tape to each side. Fold paper upwards from the score line before removing tape backing to get a nice crease. Now remove backing and fold up, creating a pocket.

On the tags slip ribbons through the ribbon slot, and tie the bottons around the ribbon where it meets the paper at the top with string, floss, or very narrow ribbon. Now you may place the tags into the pockets on the back of the accordian folded booklet. Fold like an accordian with the 'F' on the front.

Hope you have fun with this project.

Made for my daughter (it's easy once you've done it once!):

Make a Wish and Birthday Wishes

Turning eight is very special, so I wanted to make a special card for this little girl (my son-in-law's niece). I had never before made a circle card and decided this was the perfect project to try making one. So this is my first circle card.
Since it was so elaborate, it would of course not fit into a flat envelope, so I modified the box I learned to make from Gina K's tutorial into a square while making it deeper. (I ended up having to use paper from my large charcoal sketch pad in order to create it since it would not fit on a 12 x 12. This turned out to be a fun project that I was well pleased with. I think that any little 8 year old girl would love this card. I loved the effect of Swiss Dotting the velum that I adhered to the pink cardstock. I combine it with some striped velum that I had laying around for a few years and cover the seam with the ribbons and buttons. Looks great!
The '8' is covered with Cool Highlight Glitter Ritz, and on the ivory ribbon I adhered the narrower pink ribbon with double sided tape.

On the back of the card, I attached a coupon with pink floss tied around the inside to back.

This card took more time than most card projects, but it was worth the effort, and was a lot of fun to make.

March 22, 2010

Less than three weeks after making this card I came across OCC Sketch Challenge and was amazed that there was a sketch of this card I had just made. So I've entered it.
